I’m flakebelly, a mixing engineer and artist based in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. I run Flaming Jangle Studios, where I offer creative mixing and mastering services tailored to independent artists. My work spans genres like indie, folk, acoustic, psychedelic, and experimental - and I approach each mix as a handmade, personal process.

My studio setup includes:

– Hybrid analogue/digital workflow
– Hardware from Rupert Neve Designs, SSL, Chandler Limited, Warm Audio, and Kush Audio
– Akai mono reel-to-reel tape machine (used for natural saturation and delay)
– Custom porch reverb chamber (for raw, lo-fidelity ambience)
– Pro Tools, FabFilter, UAD, Soundtoys, Acustica Audio, iZotope, Waves, and more

– 3 groups of revisions within 30 days of first delivery

My mixing process is detail-focused but intuitive. I work from your original multitracks (please send in the format they were recorded), your rough mix (even if messy), and any reference tracks or notes you have. I take care to understand the tone and space you’re after, and deliver a final mix that feels finished, dynamic, and true to your intent.

I’ve been writing and performing music for over 20 years and mixing my own recordings for the past 5. My focus is on independent, character-rich projects - everything from intimate acoustic songs to lo-fidelity, textured recordings. I bring a careful, hands-on approach to mixing, shaped by years of working with raw, emotionally driven material in a home studio environment designed for nuance, tone, and atmosphere.

AirGigs may list me as US-based, but I'm working from my home studio in the Outer Hebrides - and I work with artists all over the world. I’d love to help shape your sound.
