Recently references of charango / ronroco in pop culture is Gustavo Santaolalla in The Last of us soundtracks, where he explores the ethereal and delicate sound of the Argentinian ronroco (a 5th or 4th lower charango).
But the charango can be a very vibrant instrument when played wth more rasgueado and repique techniques, suiting well in fast and energic dancelike songs
