Sarah Jory (born Sarah Elizabeth Jory, 20 November 1969 in Reading, Berkshire, England) is an English musician and vocalist.
Sarah Jory began to learn to play musical instruments at the age of five, when she obtained her first steel guitar.
In 1978, she was backed by the group Poacher when she was featured on the BBC Radio 2's Live from. Also at the age of nine, she joined the band Colorado Country after her father, Arthur Jory,
secured her an audition. Jory played with the band for four years while completing her schooling.
During this time, the band changed their name to Sarah and the Colorado Country. Jory's first
album, Sarah's Steel Line, which she recorded with the band Poacher, was released by Crow Records in 1980, when she was eleven years old. After the album's release, she was asked to play at the
Petersborough Festival of Music, having appeared earlier at Neil Coppendale's British Country Music
Festival at the Brighton Centre.
At thirteen, Jory first visited the United States of America where she played at the Steel Guitar
Convention in St. Louis with Buddy Emmons.
Musical career and honours Edit
From 1984 to 1992, Jory played thirteen steel guitar conventions in the US, appearing with Buddy Emmons , Lloyd Green and Paul Franklin and has worked with Ricky Skaggs, Porter Wagoner, Kenny Rogers, Charlie Pride, The Bellamy Brothers , Glenn Campbell , Cyndi Lauper , Van Morrison , Eric Clapton , Phil Collins and Gene Watson
In 1985, the British Country Music Association voted Jory "The Most Promising New Act", followed by being voted the "Female Vocalist of the Year" for nine consecutive years by the BCMA. She also was voted "European Country Rock Entertainer of the Year". In 1995, 1996 and 1997, BCMA also voted her "British Female Vocalist of the Year".
In 1988, Jory worked in Bristol and formed her own professional band, opening for Eric Clapton in
Dublin, among others and toured with Glen Campbell.
Jory played with the Van Morrison band during 2006 to 2012 and performed on his albums Keep It
Simple and Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl and on the DVD Astral Weeks Live at the
Hollywood Bowl: The Concert Film.
In 2009, she performed with the touring production of, Essence of Ireland. During her career, Sarah has won in excess of 500 awards!!! These range from various Country music club awards, for Best Act, along with being entered into numerous Guitar Halls of Fame and receiving best act awards in Europe and the UK.
Sarah has also been inducted into the British Country Music Awards(BCMA) Hall of Fame.
Since 2013, Sarah has been very proud to be part of Phil Mack promotions and live events, for Keep it Country TV, where she holds the responsibility of being Musical Director.
She also has a busy touring schedule throughout Europe as well as America and Asia,and has recently been involved in playing shows for Cyndi Lauper and Imelda May, Duane Eddy and Albert Lee.
In March 2017, Sarah played at the Texas Steel Guitar Convention and in April 2017, headlined one of the nights at the famous Basel Blues Festival in Switzerland.
Despite an enviable music career, that has lasted for over 40 years, Sarah Jory is still very much top of her game and still commands large audiences, playing at prestigious music venues throughout the
world!
Sarah has another immensely busy touring schedule for 2025/26/27and has already accompanied the amazing Ray Scott on his European tour and shared the stage with Dale Watson in Switzerland.
In 2018, Sarah played with her dear friend, the legendary Albert Lee in Poland and touring Europe with Darryl Worley and headlined 16 country festivals throughout Europe and the UK and with her own band.
2019 was another busy year, where organisers booked Sarah and her own band, to headline 17
festivals, so far and playing at another 117 other events!!
Along with touring with her own band for 2019, Sarah has been booked as a featured artist with Darryl Worley, Ray Scott, William Michael Morgan Albert Lee to name but a few.
Sarah was booked to headline the TSGA Convention, in March 2019/20/21/24/25
,along with the fantastic Paul Franklin. ...
Sarah is also a session musician and has played on over 1500 recording projects for other artists,
including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra and Van Morrison, to name a few.
She is fully endorsed by Mullen Pedal Steel Guitars, D’Addario Strings, San Lorenzo Slide guitars from France, Telonic Amps, Jackson Steel Guitars, Peterson Strobe Tuners, Sarno Musical Solutions and Peavey Amps & Guitars.
In 2015, Sarah was voted the Worlds Number One Female Pedal Steel Guitarist and an achievement
she holds to this day!!
Sarah is also an active member, supporter and the Ambassador for the International campaign,
Women In Music.
