Old School to New School bassist here who worked with sme Musical legends.
I recorded in the original STAX studio in Memphis Tenn. with Steve Cropper engineering where Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Isaac Hayes and other STAX & Atlantic artists including Aretha Franklin & Wilson Pickett recorded. I was honored as Duck Dunn let me use his Fender P Bass and Kustom amplifier which he used at that time on all the STAX hits like Dock of the Bay, Soul Man, and other classic Soul R&B recordings. During this time, I played a concert then in Memphis with Isaac Hayes, the Staple Singers and Ollie and the Nightingales which was shortly after the tragic death of MLK.

I came to Stax with musical artist named Johnny Daye who was discovered by Otis Redding in Pittsburgh Pa, and was with Otis at his last performance on the Upbeat Show in Cleveland Ohio. Otis was promoting Johnny Daye at that time who decided to not fly with Otis on that tragic plane flight which included most of the BarKays group who had the big R&B hit, "Soul Finger".

I also played bass for the original Motown group "The Marvelettes" live show, so I am intimate on a personal basis with the Motown and raw Soul feel and style of STAX. recordings from first hand experience. I am a seasoned Vintage Old School but also Modern New School bassist.

I am not limited to Soul and R&B, I've also played in Pop and Rock groups in multiple styles across the USA, including Hard Rock and Country. and even did gigs with the drummer from MC5 a group who is considered the forerunners of Punk Rock.
Also, Classical musicians from the L.A. and San Diego Philharmonic. I am into ALL Music, as it has been stated, "Music is the universal language".

Included on this site are examples of my bass playing in different genres.
Tell me what style you are looking for and I will send you an example of
me playing bass in the style you play.

I approach Bass playing and music from a vantage point of "Heart and Soul" & Groove, like the musicians at STAX, Motown and Muscle Shoals did. It comes naturally for me. I am also a contemporary bassist up and on top of all the modern styles.

I excel in knowing what bass groove will launch your song, since I've played with some of the legends in the Biz. and I know how the bass is supposed to compliment the song. I've lived with the development of bass over many decades and absorbed the evolution of bass playing, especially for hit songs. Commercial bass playing has motivated my Life as well as observing the legends of the bass guitar.

I also took personal Bass lessons with Jazz Bassist Herb Mickman in Hollywood Calif. who was a student of Charles Mingus and who played with Chick Corea and Sarah Vaughn. I have 50 plus years of personal study and listening to music and bass playing to know what a song needs and what makes it a hit. I will know what your song needs also, with your vision in mind of course.

Let me help make your song be a success..
