Ed Bernard is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, performer, teacher and mix engineer based just outside Toronto, Canada. Ed started playing guitar at 11 years old and knew that professional music was where he should be. At age 13 he was featured on City TV's The New Music, alongside his heroes Iron Maiden and Rush. As his musical influences grew, Ed quickly expanded his skills to violin, viola, mandolin, banjo, vocals and basically any instrument with strings on it. Ed became an in demand touring and session musician, playing thousands of shows in various bands across North America, and recording and writing countless jingles.
Eventually tiring of the road, Ed started his production studio in 2002. A few short years later, Ed formed his first original prog rock band, Druckfarben, after performing The Yes Album and Close to the Edge for Classic Albums Live. Ed produced two albums, Druckfarben and Second Sound, and produced and mixed a full length live DVD entitled Artifact. Druckfarben's albums and shows received glowing reviews worldwide and sold thousands of copies. In 2015, Ed was invited to play viola, violin and harmony vocals for the seminal Canadian prog band FM. The album, Transformation, featured founding member Cameron Hawkins, Paul DeLong (Kim Mitchell, One Word Band) and fellow violinist Aaron Solomon.
That same year, Ed was finishing up his first solo record, Polydactyl. Ed handled almost everything, playing guitars, mandolins, violins and violas, to vocals, writing, producing and mixing. Polydactyl received rave reviews and also sold extremely well worldwide.
Currently Ed is writing and recording songs for a possible metal record, and released the first song, Nested, in April 2022. A second song, Icicles, will be following very soon.
Ed is available for work as a session musician, producer, mix engineer and teacher.
