Call of the Yellow Bird

Can you hear these weirdly screeches?
That’s the Call of the Yellow Bird.

Its colorful wings and pointy feathers
will take you to some higher place.

Don’t be afraid of its beak full of teeth.
It only smiles of pure delight.

It has red, sharp claws and doesn’t mean to hurt you
but be aware it’s a wildly beast.

It’s not angry while breathing a fire.
Just yearning for you to get up on your feet.

If you feel happy and a tiny bit crazy
just yell along with the Yellow Bird.


Call of the Yellow Bird is a project, founded by Dutch multi instrumentalist Coen Hamelink. After playing along and recording a lot of music with different bands, Coen started creating this project, inspired by Ethio-Jazz, Afrobeat and South African Jazz. His fellow musicians are friends and partners in crime, who also play(ed) in bands such as the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra and Zitakula. It’s all about the musical journey and feeling alive.

This is the first track of an upcoming album, which will be released some day in the near future.
