A Cuban touch on a Spanish classic: Laura Mazon Franqui revives Tárrega’s ‘Capricho Árabe’ for a new generation
[City, Date] — Cuban classical guitarist Laura Mazon Franqui brings a fresh voice to a Spanish masterpiece with her new single, “Capricho Árabe” by Francisco Tárrega, released today on all streaming platforms.
Composed around 1892 and dedicated to Tárrega’s close friend Tomás Bretón, Capricho Árabe is celebrated for its flowing arpeggios, romantic phrasing, and Moorish-inspired melodies. Laura’s interpretation honors the piece’s rich Spanish heritage while infusing it with her own artistry, warmth, and emotional depth.
Laura recorded the single on her Pepe Romero Jr. guitar with Augustine Strings, a brand she is proudly endorsed by, capturing the clarity, resonance, and intimacy essential to Tárrega’s music.
The single is part of her upcoming album Rojo, presented by boutique classical music label Prima Classics, which explores Hispanic and Latin American guitar repertoire, featuring works by Tárrega, Brouwer, Villa-Lobos, Turina, Morel, Rivera, and Montero.
Laura’s first single already reached #1 on Amazon Music’s Spanish Guitar playlist and was featured on Deezer’s Classical Releases editorial playlist. With Capricho Árabe, she continues to blend tradition, storytelling, and technical mastery, making classical guitar accessible and emotionally engaging for a new generation of listeners.
