I’m a guitarist and songwriter living in East Texas with more than 20 years of experience. I work mostly in the broad territory between Americana, folk, blues, jazz, and soul, and my primary goal is always to find the most effective part for a song.

I listen first, and I think about the places where storytelling and music meet: phrasing, melody, call and response, tension and release, structure, and narrative. Some songs need a foundational rhythm part to hold the arrangement together. Others need restrained fills, a melodic counterline, a solo or a chord solo. Some need more energy, and some need sounds that establish and sustain an atmosphere. I like figuring out what’s missing without overcrowding what’s already there.
