Aardschok Magazine exclaimed: "Bandleader and vocalist Moira Murphy has a range that starts from the vomiting vocals of a Nina Hagen through the dramatic, narrative vocals of Heidi Parviainen, for example, to immensely powerful opera vocals."
Contemporary soprano and composer Moira Murphy is a born and bred Appalachian living in the mountains of Tennessee. She has toured internationally with operas, performed around the United States with metal, rock, goth, indie, and jazz bands, acted at Dollywood theme park, performed masterwork solos with orchestras, arranged choir and band pieces for repertory theatres and churches, stage directed opera, and coached voices from age 8 to 80.
Her debut solo album, 'A Trembling Flame,' is a classical ambient collection that centers around her arrangements of the chants of 12th century mystic Hildegard von Bingen. She has performed from this repertoire around the United States, from the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, Colorado, to the art space Chapel of St. Philip Neri in Louisville, KY, to The Community of St. Hildegard in Ohio and beyond. Future appearances include the Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
Her work as the lyricist, orchestrator, and frontwoman for the progressive doom opera band Oryad has garnered attention from critics around the world. Last seen at Mad With Power Festival in 2025, the band is writing new material and planning 2026 performances.
