Shonn Hinton is one of the most passionate, skillful, and talented guitarists that very few people have ever heard of. Audiences around the world have witnessed the sound, but never known the name of this impeccable guitarist as he’s featured on stages with Mary J Blige, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, John Legend, & Jill Scott. At the age of 38, Hinton’s style has been compared to that of a physical voice, singing with great conviction; making him quite the choice for big name acts.
Hinton spent his early years playing and developing his sound in churches where he honed in on his craft serving as the guitarist for his grandfathers church “Johnson’s Temple Church of the First Born”. He’s noted saying, “Loosing one of the main influences who taught me all the fundamentals of being a guitarist and a great father was the saddest day of my life, but it matured my playing. With Lesley, his guitar, and his contagious personality Hinton has unlocked doors gaining him the footing he needed to promote him from a church musician to being a professional musician on national stages. In 2002, he met a young Chicago native by the name of Rex Hardy Jr. Their first encounter was at the biggest music festivals in the world, Summer fest, located in his hometown. Immediately Hinton wanted to relocate to Chicago but Rex had bigger plans for Hinton. Rex listened to Hinton play and decided to give him a shot. The shot paid off. The highly respected Rex opened doors and increased Hinton’s listener’s triple fold. He was now playing at Madison Square Garden, The Staples Arena, The Boston Garden, and The Super Dome in New Orleans. He was playing with Grammy award winning musicians, putting him in the company of other big music directors like Adam Blackstone (BBE), and Amir Quest Love Thompson (The Roots, Jimmy Fallon) who would tell artist like John Legend, and Jill Scott about Hinton’s gifts and abilities as a guitarist.
