ABOUT KAITLYN RAITZ

New York native Kaitlyn Raitz grew up surrounded by an array of musical genres, finding each one more exciting than the next. These passions have led her to a career as a versatile cellist who is equally at home playing Schubert or Sondheim, sitting in on a bluegrass jam or reading a Beethoven string quartet, and performing on stage at New York's Carnegie Hall or Nashville's Station Inn.

Kaitlyn has collaborated with world renowned artists in a wide array of genres - trumpeter and composer Frank London of the Klezmatics, North Indian classical music tabla player Shawn Mativetsky, and country music singer and songwriter Brandy Clark, to name a few. Her playing can be heard on albums by bluegrass guitar virtuoso Billy Strings, the Call of Duty video game series, as well as dozens more major motion picture soundtracks and albums. Most recently, she began playing with Canadian fiddler Ben Plotnick. The duo, Oliver The Crow, released their first full-length record in June 2018 to critical acclaim. Most notably, NPR called them an “inspired collaboration.”

ABOUT BEN PLOTNICK

Ben Plotnick has established himself over the last decade as one of North America’s elite fiddle players. With a variety of acts, he has performed across 4 continents. He has recorded on more than a hundred albums as a session musician, performed at arenas and festivals across the continent with country, folk, Americana and bluegrass bands, and produced 6 records for himself or other collaborative projects. As an old time fiddler, he has placed as high as 1st runner-up at the esteemed Canadian Grand Masters fiddle competition. Moving from Calgary to Toronto and eventually on to Nashville, Ben continues to perform with and record for countless cross-platform artists (such as Raffi, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Anne Murray, Brett Kissel, Paul Brandt, and extensive touring with Front Country, Sarah Jane Scouten, The Fretless and Oliver the Crow).

Studying jazz music, arranging and composition at Humber College in Toronto has put Ben in a unique position of “bridging the gap” between classical, jazz and various styles of fiddle music – a talent that has put him in great demand as an arranger, in particular for adapting jazz, pop, bluegrass and country tunes for string orchestras or quartets.
