Hey! My name is Justin Kimball, and I am looking to make great music with you. I have been playing music most of my life, starting on trumpet and euphonium as a kid, moving to guitar in middle school, and then landing on bass before high school. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sound Recording Technology from University of Massachusetts Lowell, where I studied the nuances of studio recording and bass performance. I also performed in many groups in and out of academia, where I learned how to play in a range of styles tastefully. Since moving to Nashville 6 years ago, I work in many studios around town, as an assistant engineer, engineer, and studio musician. I also freelance with many groups and artists, and tour the country with my band, Brooks Hubbard Band. Combining my knowledge of studio gear, workflow, and musicality, I can deliver tasteful and appropriate bass tracks for any style of music that will sound great.

Recording gear includes a wide range of electric basses, from all types of Fenders, Guild, Hofner, Sire, and Vintage, fretless basses, and several carved top Shen upright basses, which I can play arco or pizzicato. Noble DI, handmade motown passive DI, and 70s vintage Ampeg B15 are also key parts to my sound. Recording rig consists of Burl, API, and Focusrite preamps into Antelope Audio Orion 32 Convertors, into iMac with latest ProTools, and can work at any sample rate and bit depth. I spend time finding the right bass / technique / recording setup / performance for your song to make it special.

For electric bass tracks, I will send two tracks, one will be a clean Noble DI signal, and the second will be dirtier track through my vintage Ampeg B15, for more "character." For upright bass, I will send two mic tracks, one will be a higher mic closer to the neck for more note definition, the second closer to the body for more low end, for you to balance in your track as you please. For synth bass, I will use an Arturia MiniBrute analog synthesizer, which will be a mono audio track. All tracks will be fully edited, and should be able to plug and play.

I will complete all tracks within 72 hours, including the 2 revisions, if necessary. I look forward to making music with you!
