Gavin Ryan is an active freelance percussionist residing in Provo, Utah. His versatility in drumset, orchestral and world percussion has led to a diverse career performing with a wide range of ensembles. He has performed throughout the United States, as well as in England, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Haiti and China. His performance and recording credits include Book On Tape Worm, Apt, Parlor Hawk, Bones Jugs N Harmony, TV Buddha Ensemble, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia de Camera, Utah Symphony and Nova Chamber Music. Ryan has worked and performed with Pulitzer Prize winners Steve Reich, Julia Wolfe, David Lang, and Aaron Jay Kernis, among many others. He founded and currently directs Gamelan Madu Kencana, a community Balinese gamelan based in Provo.

He received his Master of Music degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ryan was a 2014 Bang On A Can Summer Fellow and recently finished researching in Bali, Indonesia on the ancient styles of gamelan selonding through a US Fulbright Research award. Ryan has taught at Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, and Westminster College and currently serves on the Percussive Arts Society World Music Committee.
