Colleen Gabourel is an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with broad musical interests and experience as a performance and recording artist. Although her primary instrument is the piano – having studied classical piano for over 20 years – she has also studied jazz and classical saxophone for 16 years. While performing with jazz bands The Vermahorns and The Fedora Project, she won first and second runner up at Portland Music’s Rose Festival Battle of the Bands in 2009 and 2010 respectively, opened for and performed with the Crazy 8s at The Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon, and performed at Waterfront Park for Portland’s Rose Festival.
After years of playing jazz and classical music and singing in choral groups, Colleen shifted in 2014 to play keyboard, saxophone, and sing backup vocals in the alternative rock band Clouds of Neptune, which released an LP on Bandcamp in 2017. She then took a short break from music to complete her graduate studies in English Literature and Culture before launching a solo project under the name Gabourel. With the launch of Gabourel, Colleen began to study music production, improve her guitar skills, and explore the folk, singer-songwriter genre. Her future work will reflect her influences from multiple genres and will encompass the skills and strengths she has developed throughout her career.
