‘…She combines a highly professional level and attitude with a keen sense for artistry. … Her wide variety of artistic projects and concerts, as well as her high artistic and instrumental level and her so inspiring curiosity is for me an example of what a musician of the 21th century ought to be.’

‘I consider Elisabeth De Merode as a distinguished performer. Beside her high capabilities as a flutist, she has a very special presence on the stage, expressive educated voice, and high theatrical potential, which gives me as a composer a great pleasure to work with her.’ (Wael Sami Elkholy – Wunsch, Indianer zu werden/Opera Bern)

Elisabeth studied the flute in the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel with Carlos Bruneel (flute solo in La Monnaie). During these studies, she gained the Erasmus scholarship to study abroad, in the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, with Hansgeorg Schmeiser. Further she specialized in Theâtre Musical, a kind of contemporary music, with a Master in the Hochschule der Künste Bern (she won the ESKAS scholarship for 2009-2010), where she also finished a Master in Music Performance with Verena Bosshart and this cum laude. She played in the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, the Brussels Philharmonic and the Symfonieorkest van Vlaanderen as in the Collegium Frascati Orchestra and next to her teaching activities (she was and is teaching the flute and chamber music in different music academies in Flanders and worked in the Musical Instruments Museum of Brussels), she has several chamber music groups as the duo l’Envol with Nathalie Colas/soprano with concerts in Italy, France and Switzerland. Collaborating in lots of musical theatre projects allowed her to travel for the music, as with the Whaletracking MD-project in Luxemburg and Athens, Der Wunsch, Indianer zu werden as a soloist in the opera of Bern, Maurizio, John, Jean-Pierre et Luciano… with the Klangbox and Binooculaire ensemble with concerts all over Switzerland, and as a soloist in many festivals as TAT, Usinesonore, Feniks Festival, Gentse feesten etc.
