A native of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Diederik van Wassenaer attended the Conservatory of Amsterdam before moving to Bloomington, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor in Music at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in 2013. Diederik also holds a Masters in Music from Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where he studied under Gordan Nikolitch.

Since 2021, Diederik holds a position as a core section violinist at the Residentie Orkest (The Hague Philharmonic).

Recent collaborations include 'Bach Clinic', a concept developed by Dutch cellist Jacqueline Hamelink, which provides unique one-on-one concerts featuring the solo instrumental works of J.S. Bach.

He also co-founded the Laurens Trio with pianist Lieselotte van Tol and cellist Belén Méndez Valledor, which has played concerts across The Netherlands and were 2020 finalists in De Grote Kamermuziek Prijs, an annual chamber music competition held at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Equally at home playing the fiddle, Diederik enjoys twin fiddling with his talented fiddle-wielding fiancée Allie Summers and has been a member of the Bloomington-based string band 'Wonderhills'. He has also collaborated with Indiana University's Silk Road Institute as well as with Lithuanian singer Maria Krupoves, performing folk songs from Eastern-Europe and Central-Eurasia.

Diederik has arranged and recorded strings on critically acclaimed albums for bands and songwriters in a wide range of genres as well as recorded for film and video game soundtracks at Nashville's famed Ocean Way Studios. His recording credits include work with Durand Jones, Peter Oren, Busman's Holiday, Tristen, Steve Marino, Harpooner, Dead Horses, Somos, Lil' Bub, Hanna Benn, Tim Grimm and Ben Bedford.

An avid songwriter himself, Diederik fronted the Bloomington-based rock band 'Dietrich Jon', releasing the EP 'Higher' in 2014 and their debut full-length 'Too Much' in September of 2017.
