David Bode is a saxophonist, composer, vocalist, and music educator from New Orleans, LA. He performs with numerous ensembles in a wide range of genres ranging from jazz to funk to reggae to classical and everything in between. Offbeat magazine has described him as "a fine sax player."
David fell in love with music at an early age. Like many children in New Orleans, he was fascinated by the drumlines of Mardi Gras parades. He began his musical education in elementary school and soon discovered the saxophone, which would become his lifelong passion. He pursued formal training at Loyola University New Orleans and the University of New Orleans with illustrious teachers including Tony Dagradi, Johnny Vidacovich, Dr. Joseph Hebert, Matt Lemmler, John Mahoney, Ed Petersen, Steve Masakowski, Victor Atkins, and Brian Seeger.
After university, David set off to explore the world, living abroad in China and St. Lucia with an extended stay home in New Orleans in between. Through these experiences, he came to cherish the unique sounds of New Orleans, and was a constant promoter of the city and its music. When David returned to New Orleans for good in 2012, he joined One Love Brass Band and Doombalaya, and began working with the New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra to produce a live peformance of a silent film score.
David has performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, and famous clubs around the world including Tipitina's and the Blue Nile in New Orleans, East Shore Jazz Cafe in Beijing, and Rockwood Music Hall in New York City. David has numerous recording credits including his debut album, Bodesattva: Arrival, and the Christmas EP, Fig and the New Tones Present: Pine Cone Classics. In addition to his performing and recording, David is an active composer, with original compositions for big band, chorus, orchestra, and concert band. He also is an active teacher, and strongly supports maintaining arts education in schools.
