Master degree in music at Rio de Janeiro State Federal University-UNIRIO , Alex Rocha works as bassist, composer and arranger besides his job as columnist at Bass Player Brazil magazine. He was part of the band of the late singer Emilio Santiago from 2003 until 2013 recording his DVDs "O Melhor das Aquarelas" in 2005 and "Só Danço Samba Ao Vivo" 2011 awarded with the Latin Grammy as the best samba album in 2012. His first solo CD "Boas Novas" (Niterói Discos / 2003) got excellent reviews from critics and was co-produced by bassist Arthur Maia.
In 26 years’ career Alex Rocha accompanied artists such as Celso Blues Boy, Danilo Caymmi, Zé Renato, Leila Pinheiro, Pery Ribeiro, Itamara Koorax, Osmar Milito, Wagner Tiso, Victor Biglione, Fred Martins, Bibi Ferreira, Rio Jazz Orchestra and also great musicians of the international jazz scene as Eddy Palermo, Phil DeGreg, Jeff Kunkel and Mark Lambert among others. At Globo TV Network he took part on the show Gente Inocente between 2000 and 2002.
Alex also played in big festivals such as:
Nescafe & Blues (São Paulo-1994); Búzios Jazz & Blues 2000; Jazz & Blues Festival in Fortaleza -2001; Tribulaciones Jazz Festival (Buenos Aires- Argentina / 2001); Ipatinga Jazz Live (2004 and 2008); Baltimore Waterfront Festival (U.S.A.- 2006); Curitiba Jazz & Blues Festival (2008), Jazz Savassi Festival, Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues and Rock in Rio in 2011.
Alex has performed with his own quintet on the 3rd Niterói Musifesfest in September 2006 received a special guest guitarist Toninho Horta.
In 2009 he recorded the keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami’s CD "Aventura", released by the British label Farout Recordings.
In 2011 he released the CD "Cachet!" by Niterói Discos label, in partnership with guitarist Marcelo Frisieiro.
In 2012 participated in the TV show "Som Brasil- Clube da Esquina" the Globo TV playing with legendary singers Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges and pianist Wagner Tiso
In 2014 participated in the MIDEM festival in Cannes, France with the Andrea Dutra Quartet and Claudio Dauelsberg Trio.
From 2015 on he is on tour with brazilian pop singer Daniel Boaventura.
