Hi, my name is Rick. I’m 44 and based near Hastings, England. I’ve been drumming for 29 years and have played extensively throughout that time, performing hundreds of gigs across a range of genres and venues. While I’ve yet to find the right opportunity to take things to the next level professionally, music has remained the constant focus of my life.
Over the years, I’ve played in several original bands, performing regularly in London and around the UK. I started out in an acoustic/folk rock band, which led to some great opportunities, including performances at Sound in Leicester Square. Following that, I joined Dr Fonda, an alt-rock band that played notable London venues including the Islington Academy and The Underworld.
I later formed a metal band, where I really discovered my passion for heavier and more technical drumming. Although that project was less commercially successful, it helped define my style and approach as a player.
I’m currently part of an alt-rock duo called Sonar Red. We’ve recently expanded into a full live band and have begun performing in London. Alongside live work, I’ve recorded two albums and five EPs across various projects.
My biggest influences growing up were Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Fear Factory, Pantera and AC/DC. Stylistically, I’d describe my playing as powerful and energetic, but always focused on serving the song. I’m comfortable playing aggressively when required, while still maintaining dynamics and control.
Technically, I’m very comfortable working with modern live and recording setups. I currently use a PDP maple kit alongside a hybrid electronic/acoustic setup for Sonar Red, incorporating triggers, mesh heads and Addictive Drums 2. I exclusively perform to a click track and have extensive experience rehearsing and performing with in-ear monitoring systems. I also own my own mixer and IEM setup.
Although I don’t have formal session credits, I have stepped in as an emergency drummer for bands on multiple occasions and pride myself on being reliable, adaptable and quick to learn material.
Ultimately, I’ve wanted to be a professional musician for as long as I can remember. I’ve remained committed to that goal throughout my life, and I’m always looking for the right opportunity and the right people to work with.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers, Rick
