Phineas Davenport is a jazz pianist, keyboardist, and composer living in New York City. He studied at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, Texas, where he learned from artists like Robert Glasper, Jason Moran, and Ingrid Jensen. A 2019 YoungArts Medalist in jazz piano and 2021 YoungArts Grant winner, Davenport moved to New York City to study Jazz Performance at The New School. Here, he was mentored by musicians Glenn Zaleski, Adam Holzman, Micah Thomas, Larry Goldings, and Jane Ira Bloom, further developing his musical interests in modern jazz, fusion, and jazz-rock.
During his time at The New School, Davenport developed a passion for composition, writing for a variety of ensembles including string quartet, big band, piano trio, and fusion sextet. He premiered many of his original pieces at the Bern Jazz Fest in Bern, Switzerland in May 2023.
In October 2023, Davenport released his debut album “10 Year Guarantee,” a jazz rock/fusion sextet album featuring six of his original compositions. Currently, he leads his piano trio and fusion sextet in New York City and is working on a second album of original compositions with his trio, set to release in 2024.
