I’m a professional arranger, orchestrator and composer based in Amsterdam, with over 20 years of experience turning existing music into convincing arrangements for real musicians, ensembles and orchestras. Over that time, I’ve written more than 150 commissioned arrangements and orchestrations, including 30+ orchestral arrangements and 35+ arrangements for large professional ensembles.
My arrangements and orchestrations have been written for and performed by musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra — widely regarded as one of the world’s leading symphony orchestras — as well as the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (NBE), Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Het Balletorkest and the 42-piece Ricciotti Ensemble.
My work has also involved artists including internationally acclaimed soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek, singer-songwriters Jonathan Jeremiah and Wouter Hamel, and Latin Grammy-nominated tango singer Omar Mollo.
For film, I worked as an orchestrator on the Oscar-nominated feature Footnote. As a composer, four of my orchestral works were performed by Argentina’s National Symphony Orchestra at the Ballena Azul concert hall in Buenos Aires in 2024, including a world premiere.
I hold a Master’s degree in Classical Composition and also studied orchestral conducting and jazz guitar. My musical background spans classical music, jazz, rock, pop, folk, tango, Brazilian music and other Latin American traditions.
I have also led and fronted the progressive-rock band Modest Midget and released several albums as a songwriter and singer. That experience is particularly useful when arranging songs: I understand from the singer’s side when an arrangement can take the foreground, when it can fill the spaces, and — just as importantly — when it needs to stay out of the way.
What can I arrange for you?
You can send me a recording, song, demo, piano sketch, MIDI file or existing score. For most song-based projects, you do not need to provide written music.
I can create:
• full orchestral and chamber arrangements
• string, wind, brass and mixed-ensemble arrangements
• orchestration and re-orchestration
• arrangements for live bands and musicians
• horn-section and pop/rock arrangements
• reductions, for example from orchestra to chamber ensemble or two pianos
• adaptations for completely different instrumentation
• choir and vocal arrangements, including SATB
• professionally engraved full scores and individual parts
• arrangements for unusual ensembles
• crossover arrangements involving musicians from different musical traditions
One of my main strengths is taking music from one world and making it work naturally in another. A rock, pop, jazz, folk, tango or Brazilian song can become a convincing arrangement for classical musicians; a large orchestral work can become chamber music; and music written for one ensemble can be completely reimagined for another.
I see arranging as a balance of craft, taste and practicality. Sometimes the right solution is to remain almost completely faithful to the original. Sometimes the brief calls for a radical reinterpretation.
Before I start, I look at what the music actually needs: the musicians involved, the instrumentation, whether it is intended for live performance or recording, amplified or acoustic, how much room there is for additional colour, and where “less is more.”
I write with real performers in mind. Parts should be playable, clear and easy to read. Balance should work in the real ensemble, not only in a computer mock-up. Good score and part preparation also saves valuable rehearsal and recording time.
From a straightforward string arrangement to a difficult instrumentation problem or a complete musical reinvention, send me your music, the musicians you have available and what you want to achieve.
I’ll find the arrangement that best serves the music.
