As a student of musicology at the Technische Universität Berlin, Matyas explored musical grounds as a multi-instrumentalist and sound-artist. During this time he discovered the classical music of India. Fascinated by its intensity and subtle emotional expressiveness he started to study classical Sitar music in Calcutta under the renowned Sitar maestro Prof. Subroto Roy Chowdhury. In 2010 he finished a 5-year-diploma in Sitar/Instrumental Music in Calcutta at the Akhil-Bharatiya-Sangit-Samach school of music.
Apart from his focus – the interpretation of classical Indian music on Sitar and Surbahar (Bass-Sitar)- Matyas is an open-minded musician eager to explore his instrumental abilities in new musical settings – independent of any genre.
His work with the renowned Pulsar Trio has given him and his instruments a wide audience. After a concert tour in Britain (Glastonbury and Nehru Center London) in july 2014 Pulsar Trio won the esteemed national CREOLE global music contest at the TFF Rudolstadt. As a guest and/or studio-musician he has worked with/for Dotschy Reinhardt & Band, Markee, Vox Omissa, Walter Moers, Georg Levin and many others. In 2015 he toured Turkey and played at the St Petersburg Sitar festival. He composed, played and recorded music for the german movie "Marry Me!".
