Hello!
I am Dave Wilder, a Los Angeles Based electric and upright bassist. I have been playing on major label records, film and TV scores and on tour around the globe for 30 years. I have played on albums by Macy Gray, Norah Jones, Ziggy Marley, De La Soul, Empire of the Sun, just to name a few. I also am a songwriter and producer. I received a 2001 Grammy nomination for co-writing Macy Gray’s smash hit, “I Try”. I want to help support and elevate your music by playing bass and add tomaking it feel good!
My credits and styles over decades of recording are all over the map, from RnB to Rock, roots music, Dance, hip hop, reggae, jazz you name it. My main goals is always to serve the song and make it groove and feel great.
I have a home studio with both vintage and modern recording gear, including Universal Audio, EMI, Focusrite mic pres. I have 15 basses ranging from vintage fender to hofner and epiphone hollowbodies , to modern 5 strings by Lakland and Fender. I have some oddball very unusual vintage basses that all sound unique. I have a 60 yr old epiphone upright bass. I use an Avalon U5 DI with both vintage Ampeg and GK amps, as well as all the universal audio virtual amps. I have an huge array of vintage and newer stomp boxes and effects, from matrons to space echos.
My process: It is collaborative! We will talk or email about what your goals are for you song or score, any influences, ideas or inspiration you have, and the feeling and musical references you want to touch on.
I will lay down some tracks and then we will discuss and fine tune until you are happy. I will give you two separate takes which can edit myself or send to you. I will do two rounds of revisions with any concerns or notes you might have. I look forward to working with you to make your music the best and FEEL the best it can.
