MATTHEW ANKLAN - TRUMPET PLAYER

Matthew Anklan is world-class trumpet player from Cincinnati, Ohio who has performed and recorded with many notable artists and groups including The Who, Iron & Wine, Aretha Franklin, Gregory Porter, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Frankie Valli, Tito Puente, Jr., Bootsy Collins, Gerald Wilson, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (Pops), The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Bob Beldon, Fred Hersch, Carnival Cruise Lines and many more. Equally at home in any genre of music, Matthew maintains a very active performance schedule.

Matthew regularly performs with several groups in the Cincinnati area; The Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra (CCJO), River City, and the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. Matthew also tours with Broadway shows, when time allows. His credits include the first national tour of Sister Act - A Divine Musical Comedy, Shrek the Musical, The Full Monty, Aladdin, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. He has also played dozens of regional theater productions.

In addition to an active performance career, Matthew gives back to the community through education. He teaches trumpet at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and has a large private studio of trumpet students from all backgrounds. Matthew’s trumpet students have the opportunity for a diverse educational experience that will prepare them to play or teach in any genre. Additionally, Matthew is the Director of Education for the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and works in conjunction with Jazz At Lincoln Center to present the Let Freedom Swing! educational series in the greater Cincinnati area.

Matthew has had a number of his compositions featured in national advertising campaigns, and works actively in music production. As a studio recording artist, Matthew has lent his trumpet sound to ABC, NBC, PBS, ESPN, HGTV, and The Hallmark Channel, Disney, Marvel Universe, various cruise lines, and frequently records for regional, national, and international performers. In 2016 one of Matthew's collaborations, One Night by Francesco Spara on DAMG Records, climbed to #7 on the Music Week charts.

Matthew earned his Master of Music, Jazz Studies at the College Conservatory of Music (CCM), University of Cincinnati.
