Six String Lady

Six String Lady

Six String Lady was written by my father and I one night over a brandy or two in a shed as a bit of a laugh. As a child, I was deeply influenced by Elvis Presley's early work at Sun Records along with Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis (and the many, many great artists that recorded there) but at the time when the song was being written, I had recently watched a documentary from 1979 called "Born Fighters" which featured the fantastic Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe detailing their recording process with their band Rockpile at Eden Studios in London. I was fascinated by the elasticity of the tape each time Edmunds punched in to take a solo of the eight track. The warm slinkiness of tape is incredibly satisfying to my ears and other than stylistically, I wanted to capture this quality of tape for Six String Lady, but digitally! I arranged and produced the song in my house and recorded every instrument except for drums as I didn't have the facility to do so. I spent many hours splicing, mixing and mastering until the sun came up. I'm proud of this debut work.
