Mundo Manija - Azabache Tango
Mundo Manija is the second studio album by Azabache Tango, an instrumental string quartet from Buenos Aires. Released on October 19, 2023, the album features original compositions that reflect the contemporary societal landscape of Buenos Aires, capturing the feelings of anxiety, euphoria, and social inequality experienced in the post-pandemic era.
The album showcases a diverse range of musical genres, including tango, candombe, murga, cumbia, and rock, all interpreted through the lens of the string quartet. The compositions explore intricate counterpoint and dense sonic textures, incorporating both acoustic and electronic effects to expand the sonic possibilities of the traditional string quartet.
The first track features a recitation by Martín "Pitu" Frontera, a renowned lyricist of Buenos Aires' murga and nuevo tango scenes, adding a unique vocal element to the instrumental compositions.
The visual artwork for the album includes photography by Marcos López and design by @_nandon (vendo.mi.ego), known for his iconic street posters, reflecting the urban and contemporary themes of the music.
