I made this record to answer a question - what can be gained by leaving out the words? I wanted the music to be as immediate and engaging as rock music with lyrics - like The Beatles, Crowded House, XTC, for example - but I wanted it to be instrumental. And not the kind of instrumental music that is all about pyrotechnics and flash. I wanted to make soulful, tuneful, singable songs that don't have any words.
