Mi Propio Poder
"Mi Propio Poder," Victoria Real's second album, is a personal and modern dream pop album in which intimate spaces intertwine with electronic elements, resulting in a musical style that stands out for its uniqueness. Influenced by post-punk and contemporary bands like The XX and Beach House, the album is composed of eight dark and honest songs that travel through the depths of humanity.
“The only contribution we can make is the quality of our work,” whispers Victoria Caregnato on the album’s opening track, “Nuestro Trabajo (Our Work),” laying the groundwork for her ambitions. All the tracks are composed, produced, and sung by her, accompanied by her electric guitar and a Kaoss Pad, an effects machine designed by Korg. A gradually distorting guitar riff opens “Un Color,” the album’s second track, in which Victoria showcases her singing talents with powerful emotional expression.
The Joy Division and New Order vibes of "Vivir Así" lift the mood a bit, as the artist calls for introspection in search of personal honesty. As a counterpoint, against a truly anguished backdrop, "Comunicar" emphasizes the need for communication with others.
The second half of the album kicks off with "Veré que puedo hacer," a track that revisits pop influences thanks to the dialogue between the guitar, electric bass (performed by Sergio Roberto Paniagua), and electronic drums (Daniel Castro). "Dreaming," meanwhile, focuses on intimacy with the raw material of guitar and voice. "Woo Hoo" is one of the most notable and daring songs, flirting with industrial rock and stretching it with synth-pop. The closing track comes with “Tonight,” where an electronic drum beat and soft guitar riff give Victoria the perfect setting to find hope in the cosmos: “If you’re sad tonight / if you’re feeling down / look at the stars, look at the sun / tonight.” Tracklisting for “Mi Propio Poder”:
