the things we dont say
the things we don't say
by John M Taylor
we believe what we want
to do as we will
building sandcastles
upon rocks in high water
our backs to the darkness
free falling from the light
desperately pleading
we hide behind the things we don’t say...
alone in our thoughts
who could ever understand?
the words in our hearts
from our lips fall like dry sand
desert mirages
ghosts we’ve never known
hey, friend, how are you?
betrayed by the things we don’t say...
your arm's across my shoulders
and your ear's next to my cheek
we lean into each other’s side
then play this game of hide and seek
you know how much we want to know
the truth that sets us free
yet we hide
oh, still we hide!
(what did you say?)
when you’re afraid to show me where
I’ll take your hand walk there with you
when you're still holding back your love
I’ll risk the fall
take the wounding
I can feel your loneliness
imploding like a cave around you
but with grace and light
all good will
we can speak the truth to each other...
the things we don’t say
the things we don’t say…
I want to talk about
the things we don't say
let me learn
I no longer can deny the things that we don't say
I no longer can deny the things that we don't say
