Ballet School - The Dew Lasts An Hour Bella Union

Role: Producer / Mixing / Arrangement / Recording
Label: Bella Union (2014)

The Dew Lasts An Hour is the critically acclaimed debut album by Berlin-based dream-pop trio Ballet School, released on the iconic UK indie label Bella Union. Blending ethereal vocals, shimmering guitar textures, and 1980s-inspired synth-pop, the record channels influences from Cocteau Twins to The Cure while carving out a sound uniquely its own—emotional, cinematic, and sonically rich.

As producer, mixer, arranger, and recording engineer, I worked closely with the band to sculpt a sound that emphasized contrast: lush melodic dreamscapes paired with crisp, percussive rhythms. The creative process was highly collaborative, with attention to spatial depth, vocal layering, and dynamic synth design to support the record's themes of youthful melancholy and romantic resilience.

The album received strong critical acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork, NME, and The Guardian, who praised its sleek production, emotional immediacy, and the band’s genre-blurring aesthetic. My role was instrumental in translating Ballet School’s artistic vision into a polished debut that resonated with both indie and pop audiences worldwide.
