Daughters of Reykjavík - Soft Spot Orchard

Role: Mixing
Label: The Orchard (2020)

Soft Spot by Daughters of Reykjavík is a bold and genre-defying album that fuses feminist hip-hop, electronic pop, and Icelandic cultural storytelling into a cohesive and powerful statement. Known for their raw energy and outspoken lyrics, the group explores themes of vulnerability, empowerment, and identity through a sonic palette that is both edgy and emotionally resonant.

As the mixing engineer, my focus was on highlighting the group's vocal dynamics—balancing aggressive rap flows with intimate spoken word and lush harmonies—while preserving the grit and authenticity that define their sound. The production demanded punchy low-end for club-ready beats, spacious reverbs for atmospheric moments, and vocal clarity across multilingual performances.

This album was a significant project not only for its bold artistic direction but also for its cultural impact—elevating feminist voices in Icelandic music and beyond. My contribution helped ensure that each track maintained high energy and emotional clarity, making Soft Spot both a political and musical statement that resonates with diverse global audiences.
