Nesmith was the Glue
This was a rarity because George was the one who came up with the concept and most of the lyric and I wrote the music. In the 40 plus years we've written songs together, 98% of the time I wrote the lyric and George did the music.
Both of us happened to like the music of Michael Nesmith. With regards to our taste in music, for the most part George likes more rock-oriented songs while I've favored more folk and pop. His idea for the song was that whenever we got together, we'd play a Nesmith tune.
