Letting In
This song was written about my girlfriend when I was 24 years old. She had gone to work in San Francisco and we weren't handling a long distance break up well.. I was anxiously waiting for her to get back, realizing I'd learned a lot from her absence. Namely, that love only flows to the extent that there is acceptance. An easy thing to do at first, but something that becomes harder as we become more familiar. Its something I'm still learning in my relationship with life, and like any valuable piece of art, seems to speak to me even now, as if its an entity of its own volition.
I wrote the first line and melody when she was away.. then improvised the lyrics in front of her and some friends on a beach in 2014. Man how time flies...
