Alice Paul
Being quite the history buff, one day at my local library in the history section, I came across a book about Alice Paul. A very remarkable woman who fought for equal rights for women in the early 1900's. This inspired the song. I played acoustic guitar on this one
Standing up for justice
while the men were sitting down
Alice Paul could ill afford
To blend in with the crowd
She was not the first
To bring attention to the cause
Standing up for justice
Challenging the laws
1917, and marching off
Alice Paul would simply ask
Equal rights for all
Armed with just a banner
With a vision to promote
Standing up for justice
And the right to vote
