A Haphazard Adventure

A Haphazard Adventure began life as an English demo from 2019 titled By the River. I built it around a deconstructed pop idea, keeping the production minimal and groove-led. The vocal delivery was calm and assured, and instead of expanding in the chorus, the arrangement deliberately stripped back to a sparse percussive groove.

The demo sat in Universal Music Publishing’s catalogue for several years. In early 2024, I revisited it. Using my own vocal performance as the reference, I converted the vocal into a female tone through Kits.ai to present the song more convincingly to potential artists. The songwriting, melody and production remained exactly as originally written.

By April 2024, the song was placed on hold and later made the cut with emerging Malaysia and Taiwan artist Ivy Lee under Universal Music Taiwan. I was brought on as arranger to retain the original sonic direction and credited as co-producer, as the foundational concept originated from my demo.

Throughout production, I worked closely with the Taiwanese producer to adapt the song for Mandarin lyrics and its target market. Some structural and phrasing adjustments were made, but the minimal framework and core identity of the track remained intact.

The track was released in late 2025.
