Grateful Evening
'Grateful Evening' was born from a photograph I took in San Isidro, Lima (my birthplace) in 2019.
After transforming it into an abstract oil painting, it became my visual inspiration for melodies that would evoke what it would feel like to be in a place that exists between the homely and the enigmatic.
So I blended environmental elements with traditional instruments – acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele, bass, and wooden percussion – experimenting with reverbs and textures to mirror the dreamlike quality of the cover.
The name of the first song "Glass Door" stems from the journey beginning by entering through the glass door present on the cover, while the rest of the songs portray the different places that the protagonist (the album listener) traverses within and around this mysterious 'house'.
Essentially, the album aims to evoke that sensation of finding yourself alone in a place much larger than what one is accustomed to.
It's not necessarily a feeling of sad loneliness, but rather one of gratitude for the everyday things, introspection and perhaps some comfort in oneself.
