Dark Melody

Dark Melody

“Dark Melody” was originally written as incidental music for a local theatre production in Missouri of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The piece was created specifically for the scene in which Lucy is placed under a magical sleep by Mr. Tumnus.

Although the title “Dark Melody” is original and not connected to the official production title, the music was composed to support the emotional shift of the scene and help carry the audience into a darker, more uncertain moment in the story.

The arrangement is driven primarily by strings, beginning with a tense and atmospheric feel before gradually expanding into a fuller orchestral sound. As the scene develops, additional orchestral elements are introduced, building intensity and emotion until the piece reaches a dramatic climactic ending.

This project gave me the opportunity to write music around live theatrical timing and storytelling, with the goal of enhancing the scene without overwhelming the actors or dialogue. “Dark Melody” reflects my approach to scoring: using orchestration, dynamics, and thematic development to support the emotional direction of a story.
