Mi Gozo - Nuevo Pacto Jóvenes

“Mi Gozo” by Nuevo Pacto Jóvenes is a new interpretation of a song originally released by Nuevo Pacto in 2003 on the album Mi Refugio. For this version, I served as the producer, arranger, and lead vocalist, helping reimagine the song through a fresh vallenato-inspired approach while preserving the joyful, faith-filled character of the original.

One of the most meaningful parts of the project was having the involvement and approval of Roberto “Tito” Martinez, the song’s original composer. Tito also returned to the song in a new role by mixing this version, creating a unique connection between the original recording and this new interpretation.

The heart of Mi Gozo is a message of joy, peace, and complete trust in God even in the middle of adversity. The lyric speaks about depending on God, being guided by His light, and having confidence that even when life feels like a storm, Christ is present in the boat. Some lyrical updates were also introduced in this version to reinforce that message for a new generation.

As producer and arranger, my challenge was to take a song with an established history and give it a completely new musical personality without losing its identity. I leaned into the rhythmic energy, movement, and celebratory character of vallenato, shaping the arrangement to feel lively, communal, and fun while still supporting the worshipful message of the song.

Performing the lead vocal also gave me another perspective on the production. Because I was both shaping the arrangement and singing the song, I was able to approach the phrasing, dynamics, and energy of the vocal as part of the overall production rather than as a separate element.

A major part of my creative process was making sure the song communicated joy not only through the lyrics, but through the arrangement itself—the groove, the momentum, the repetition, and the way the energy continues to build as the song progresses.

Once the production and arrangement were complete, the song was mixed by Roberto “Tito” Martinez and mastered by Jorge Santos.

Mi Gozo represents one of the things I enjoy most about producing: honoring the history of a song while finding a new musical language for it. In this case, the goal was to take a beloved piece of Nuevo Pacto’s catalog and give it a joyful, culturally vibrant sound that could carry its message of trust in God to another generation.
