Bitte geh nicht ran

Bitte geh nicht ran

“Bitte geh nicht ran” (“Please Don’t Pick Up”) is an original German-language song written for my independent music project XS 0198.

The song captures a very specific — and painfully relatable — late-night moment: you’ve had a little too much to drink, emotions are louder than reason, your phone is already in your hand, and suddenly you’re calling the one person you absolutely know you shouldn’t.

The central line, “Bitte geh nicht ran,” creates the contradiction at the heart of the song: making the call while simultaneously hoping the other person won’t answer. You want the connection, but you also know that answering could reopen something you were trying to leave behind.

I deliberately built the lyrics around an ordinary, recognizable situation rather than an abstract description of heartbreak. The phone call becomes the entire emotional setting — a small impulsive action carrying loneliness, longing, regret, hope and loss of self-control at the same time.

This is characteristic of my songwriting approach: taking everyday thoughts and situations that people rarely say out loud and turning them into concise, memorable German phrases. The language remains conversational and immediate, allowing listeners to recognize themselves in the story.

I wrote the lyrics, concept and song structure with a strong focus on storytelling, natural German phrasing and a simple central hook that carries the entire emotional conflict.

“Bitte geh nicht ran” represents the melancholic side of my writing particularly well: vulnerable and emotionally exposed, but still designed to exist within a modern, danceable electronic production.
