Ears & Egos

Ears & Egos is a Neo-Soul/Forensic Soul project built around one central question: How much of what we hear actually reaches us before the ego edits the message?

I wrote and developed the album as an exploration of communication, relationships, perception, vulnerability, emotional accountability and the contradictions people carry into conversations. Some songs examine love and healing; others deal with self-protection, misunderstanding, confidence, disappointment and the moments when what someone says and what another person hears become two completely different realities.

As songwriter and producer, I approached each track as its own emotional environment while maintaining a cohesive identity across the album. My process begins with the central truth of the song—the sentence, feeling or contradiction everything else must orbit. From there I develop the hook, lyrical architecture, verses, bridges, vocal direction, instrumentation and production choices around that emotional center.

The writing combines neo-soul warmth with hip-hop lyricism, R&B melody, poetry, metaphor, internal rhyme, symbolism, conversational language and psychological storytelling. I deliberately move between direct statements and layered imagery so a listener can connect immediately while still discovering new meanings on later listens.

Production-wise, I wanted the project to feel musical and human rather than overly polished: soulful chords, textured drums, expressive bass, atmospheric elements and arrangements that leave room for the lyrics and vocals to breathe. I use tools including Reason and Pro Tools as part of my production workflow.

Ears & Egos also represents the broader songwriting philosophy behind my work, which I call Forensic Soul: examine the evidence life leaves behind, identify the emotional truth underneath it, and turn that truth into music.

After more than 30 years of songwriting, nearly 30 years of poetry and almost 25 years of beat-making and music production, this album reflects how those disciplines have grown together. I am comfortable developing a song from a single sentence, personal story, melody, concept, reference track or unfinished idea and helping shape it into a complete record.
