THE PROJECT

I am a Dutch-Chinese content creator. I grew up in Shenzhen from the age of seven and lived there twenty years. In No ... vember 2026 Shenzhen hosts the APEC summit, and I am commissioning an original song about the city, to be released around it and used across YouTube, Bilibili, Douyin and Instagram.

This is not a corporate jingle and not an official anthem. It is a people's song about the strangest city on Earth: a place with almost no history, built in forty-six years by people who came from every province in China, where a drone lands on your balcony with your lunch and nobody looks up.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE WRITING

Funny first, moving second. Street-level and specific - real dishes, real districts, real weather. The kind of song where someone hears one detail and thinks "how does a foreigner know that?"

Three things need to be audible in it, and I will give you full material on all three:

1. The technology. Shenzhen is the most futuristic city in the world and nobody who lives there thinks so. Driverless taxis, delivery drones, a port that runs itself. But always deadpan, from the balcony, as a mild inconvenience, never as a marvel. It is not the future if you live in it.
