Create Beginner Flex Parts for Existing Elementary Orchestra Pop/Soft Rock Arrangement

Project Description:

I am an elementary orchestra teacher looking for help adding very simple beginner string parts to an arrangement made for 5th graders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QspsDaNtEppoKAcHow8vsRfQccFLV49t/view?usp=sharing

We would like to include our beginner students, but the current arrangement would be too difficult for them. These parts will allow 4th grade beginners (playing about 4 months seen once a week for 30 minu ... tes in small groups) to play along with our second-year students for an upcoming concert.

We already have a completed arrangement and full score (MusicXML) for second-year students. I will provide the MusicXML score, and the beginner parts can be added directly into this file. I will extract and format the parts myself.

Student Level (Beginner Group):

Playing about 4 months, with 30-minute small group lessons once per week

Currently know:

Open strings

D string notes: D, E, F#, G

A string notes: A, B, C#, D

Purpose of Beginner Parts:

Support the melody and texture of the existing arrangement

Students should play along with and support the main melody, not create complex harmony lines

Beginner Part Guidelines:

Parts must be extremely easy (we prefer them to be watered down as possible)

Use open strings whenever possible

Repeated pitches within measures are preferred (same note for several beats)

Simple rhythms only (quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes, etc.)

Pizzicato or arco is fine (as long as they don't switch back and forth)

Avoid pitches that skip around, notes that swing/tricky rhythms for beginners, large leaps, and difficult string crossings

Students do not need to play the entire piece and may enter only during easier sections- we are okay with them playing certain parts of the song if that would make writing for it easier.

Goal: beginners sound successful while supporting the ensemble

Examples of Appropriate Beginner Patterns:

Repeated Open String Pulse (Arco or Pizzicato)

D string: D – D – D – D.
A string: A – A – A – A
or DDDD EEEE, etc.

Simple Notes on One String (doubling notes in each measure)

D – D– E– E
F# – F# – G – G

Flexibility with Existing Parts:

Small, tasteful simplifications to second-year parts are welcome if they make playing slightly easier while keeping the music musical.

What I Need:

Very easy flexible beginner parts for violin, viola, or cello

Edits can be made directly in the provided MusicXML score or XML score with beginner parts. I would like XML score.

Musical ideas that blend well with the existing arrangement

Important:

Experience writing for string instruments and/or beginner orchestra students (awareness of things that look easy can be hard for beginners and take up a lot of time in lessons)

Please use the examples above as a guide for difficulty and style

A short 8–12 measure sample first is appreciated to confirm difficulty before completing the full arrangement
