Every good session guitarist "plays for the song," but unfortunately a lot of times the end result of that sorta clichéd sales line is a part that sounds ... well, cliché. Canned. Like a bajillion guitar parts you've heard before—in everything from the tones to the phrasing and delivery.
What I guarantee instead are performances you probably couldn't have envisioned beforehand, but that you won't be able to get out of your head when our collaboration is complete: I offer captivating melodies, intriguing chord selection, respect for silence and groove, a compelling sense of rhythm, and head-turning tones that bypass the usual "studio cat" palette.
My MO is that your song is top priority—you're not hiring me to grandstand (which is good, because I'm not into that anyway)—but I also promise that my guitar parts will add a quality of character, dimensionality, and unique authenticity that stands out from the crowd.
Part of that guarantee stems from my abhorrence for generic passages and sounds, and part of it stems from my unique gear. I'm a bit of punk in my overall guitar and music outlook—tired of retreads, tired of dogged worship of the same old guitar heroes, tired of closed-mindedness that leads to boring music. I play hard and with passion—you will *feel* that in my recorded performances. Not because I have the latest state-of-the-art amp modeler or plug-ins, but because I work hard to wring alluring, characterful nuances from my guitars with my hands, and because I carefully craft sounds that get in your head as much for their beauty (when appropriate) as for their wild abandon ... if that's what you're going for.
In the end, this is your project, and I am a professional. I take direction well, and aim to please. In the event my work doesn't satisfy in the first go, I include two revisions at no charge.
My gear includes a selection of oddball acoustic and guitars (including cool baritones), boutique amplifiers, a wide variety of high-end effect pedals, a Royer R121 ribbon mic, a Shure SM57, and an Apogee Duet interface.
