Polly is a professional freelance cellist based in the UK, where she performs as an improviser, chamber musician, soloist and session musician, alongside working as an educator, facilitator and composer. Polly is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studied with Emma Ferrand.
Polly attended the Banff Centre in Canada in 2016 as an artist in residence, and whilst there she discovered a passion for improvisation in collaboration with other musicians. This love for experimentation on the cello has led Polly to creating her own original music for cello and electronics. She is also a member of Manchester-based Indie/Rock band Ideal Forgery, where she fulfills the role of lead guitar on cello, and Polly enjoys collaborating with many singer/songwriters across the UK music scene and beyond.
Polly has also performed and recorded with orchestras including the Kaleidoscope Orchestra, Gatecrasher, Street Orchestra Live, The Untold Orchestra and Joe Duddell’s Ensemble No.6. In Summer 2018, she busked on the streets of Austria with Kora player John Haycock, and the duo then performed as artists in the Pflasterspektakel (street performer’s festival) in Linz.
Polly has extensive experience of recording and playing live with bands and artists from around the world and across an impressive variety of musical genres, including Pop, Folk, Rock, Jazz, EDM, Classical, Film, Americana…
Polly offers professional remote session recordings from her home studio.
Polly can work to a fast deadline and can be as flexible as you need. She can also add multiple layers of strings and can send you the unedited stems so you can mix them how you like.
She can play parts by ear, read sheet music you’ve written and/or freely improvise over your track, and can work with you to help realise any ideas you have.
